Limits last checked Oct 2026. X uses weighted counting: Thai counts 1 per character, emoji 2, each link 23.. Platforms can change limits. Check in the app before an important post.

How Thai counting differs from English

Thai writes vowels and tone marks above or below a consonant. A word like ที่ looks like 1 character but is 3 code points (consonant, vowel, tone mark). So this tool shows visible characters and code points separately.

Most platforms do not say how they count, so the limit bars here use code points, which are never fewer than visible characters and help you avoid going over. X uses weighted counting from its own open-source library: Thai counts 1 per character, emoji count 2, and every link counts 23.

Limits cite official sources where we could find them: X (the twitter-text library) and YouTube. For the Instagram caption, TikTok username and LINE OA we could not find an official page stating the number, so they carry an unofficial label. Platforms can change limits, so check the app before an important post.

Thai has no spaces between words, so word counts rely on your browser's word segmenter. That is accurate enough for an estimate, but names and slang may be split differently than you expect.

How to use the counter

  1. Step 1

Type into the box, or paste a caption you have already written.

  2. Step 2

Watch characters, words and lines update as you type.

  3. Step 3

Check each platform's limit bar. It warns you when you are close or over.

  4. Step 4

Trim the text until it fits the platform you are posting on, then copy it.

Character counting FAQ

How many characters can an Instagram caption have?

The commonly used figure is 2,200 characters, but we have not found an official page stating it, so it is shown as unofficial. The Instagram bio limit is 150 characters per Instagram Help.

How many characters can an Instagram bio have?

150 characters, per Instagram Help. This tool counts code points, which counts Thai vowel and tone marks separately. If your Thai bio is close to the limit, confirm in the app's Edit profile field.

How does X count Thai characters?

By the open-source twitter-text library X publishes. Thai, English and digits count 1 each, including vowel and tone marks; emoji and CJK characters count 2; each link counts 23; the total must not exceed 280.

How many characters does an emoji count as?

It depends on the platform. On X it counts 2. The LINE Messaging API counts UTF-16 code units, so many emoji count as 2 or more. Others do not say, so leave some room when you use many emoji.

Do spaces and line breaks count?

Yes, in this tool, since most platforms count spaces and line breaks as characters. A separate spaces readout is shown too.

Why does the tool's count differ from the app's?

Some apps count Thai vowel and tone marks differently, or have changed their limit. If the numbers differ, trust what the app shows.

Does this tool store the text I paste?

No. Everything runs in your browser and your text never goes to a server. It is free and needs no account.
