Two places to check YouTube views: the watch page and the Realtime report in YouTube Studio. Steps to open it and why the numbers differ. Checked against YouTube Help, October 2026.
You just uploaded a video and want to know how many people are watching right now. There are two places to look: the watch page everyone can see, and the Realtime report in YouTube Studio, which only the channel owner has. They do not have to match. This guide explains each, based on YouTube Help pages checked October 2026, and how to read the numbers.
Key takeaways
- Channel owners find Realtime in YouTube Studio > Analytics > Overview
- Realtime is an estimate and may not equal the watch-page view count
- For other people's videos you only see the public count on the watch page
Where can you check YouTube views
There are two ways, and not everyone has both.

This guide uses the YouTube Help pages Get an overview of channel performance, How engagement metrics are counted and Understand your YouTube content performance, checked October 2026. Menus change with app versions. If you do not see a menu described here, update the app and try again.
Open the Realtime report in YouTube Studio
YouTube Help says the Realtime report gives early insights into recently published videos, including top videos and subscriber count. On a computer:
Open YouTube Studio
Sign in with the account that owns the channel and open YouTube Studio.
Choose Analytics
In the left menu choose Analytics. The Overview tab opens by default.
Find the Realtime card
The Overview page holds several reports and Realtime is one of them. If you do not see it, scroll down and look again.
Open the expanded report
Help says the expanded report lets you compare 60-minute and 48-hour performance and filter by format such as videos or Shorts.
TipOn mobile
Help notes some reports may not be available on mobile. If Realtime is missing in the YouTube Studio app, update the app or open YouTube Studio on a computer.
Why the two numbers differ
YouTube states that Realtime activity only shows estimates of potential view activity and might not match the number on the watch page. Views are also checked before they count in full.
Why views can differ or look frozen, per YouTube Help
Scroll the table sideways to see the remaining columns
This answers a common question: does replaying your own video push the count up? Help lists playing the same video on several devices or tabs as an example of low-quality playback, which can be discarded.
NoteView counting changed
Per the help page, from August 24, 2026 views are counted the moment a video starts to play, across long videos, Shorts and live streams. It also says Partner Program earnings still use engaged views.
Can you see other people's views in real time
The Realtime report lives in your own YouTube Studio, so you cannot open it for another channel. What you can see is the public count on the watch page, the same number everyone sees.
We have not tested third-party real-time view checker sites, and YouTube Help does not endorse them. If you try one, compare it with the watch page, and never enter your Google password on any site.
WarningBefore entering account details
A site that asks for your password or Google sign-in to show numbers could get access to your channel. If you already entered it, change your password and turn on two-step verification.
Read the numbers after an upload without panic
Numbers rarely climb smoothly at first. This is our simple routine, not a YouTube rule.

Views are low, what next
If numbers rise slower than hoped, start with the title, thumbnail and the first 30 seconds. Views are not watch hours, and the difference is explained in do bought views count toward watch hours.
If you are considering a growth service, see YouTube subscribers and views or YouTube services. Ordered numbers do not replace content, do not guarantee recommendations, and YouTube's systems may check and adjust counts as its help page describes.

Where can I check YouTube views in real time
Channel owners can open the Realtime report in YouTube Studio > Analytics > Overview. Checked October 2026.
Why does Realtime not match the watch page
YouTube says Realtime shows estimates, so it might not match the watch-page number.
Can I check another video's views in real time
You can only see the public count on the watch page. The Realtime report works for your own channel only.
Why are my views frozen or dropping
Help says the system may slow, freeze or change a count temporarily to verify it, and discards low-quality playbacks such as one video open on several tabs.
I cannot find Realtime in the mobile app
Help notes some reports may not be available on mobile. Update the app or use YouTube Studio on a computer.
Summary
Owners find Realtime in YouTube Studio > Analytics > Overview, everyone else sees the public count on the watch page. Realtime is an estimate, so use it for early trends and judge results from the Content tab after a few days.
